Stressed Out? Tips for a Healthier You
Chronic stress has detrimental effects on all body systems, and it is important to identify the causes and work on eliminating stress from one’s lifestyle. According to Dr. Barbara Allen, president and CEO of Fairmont Medical Center, stress is “anything that causes you to change direction or paths.” The body’s responses to stress include fatigue; gastro-intestinal problems, including IBS; respiratory and gland problems; cardiovascular malfunction; and diminished immune system function. Stress can be controlled by meditation and relaxation techniques. It is also important to maintain a routine and practice realistic thinking. Laughter is another helpful tactic.
