Food Allergies: False Positives Persistent Problem
Many parents believe their children are sensitive to common foods such as eggs, milk, and peanuts. However, extensive testing may reveal that many foods are in fact safe. Misdiagnosed food allergies are becoming increasingly common, and parents often avoid foods and spend extra money needlessly. More importantly, misdiagnosis puts these children at risk for malnutrition. Many allergies are diagnosed by blood tests, which may result in false positive results. New York Times, February 2, 2009
