Can I Eventually Outgrow IBS?
Maybe. The researchers from Mayo Clinic reported data on 1,365 IBS patients that were followed for an average of 12 years. They found that the shape of symptoms changes from one form of functional bowel disorder to another form, but only in a minority of the cases do the symptoms disappear completely. In this study, over a 12 year period, 20% of subjects had the similar symptoms over the follow-up period, 40% did not have their initial symptoms but developed newer symptoms, and 40% completely recovered from their IBS symptoms.Gastroenterology
