Peppermint: For More Than Just Candy Canes!
A study published in the British Medical Journal (BMJ) shows that nearly half of patients with IBS experienced relief after taking peppermint oil, compared to one in five who took anti-spasmodic drugs, and one in eleven who used fiber. The study involved 38 trials, which included 2,500 patients. Dr. Roger Jones of King’s College, London, states that the study should incite further research into the use of drugs to treat IBS, but he cautions that physicians need to also take into account a patient’s psychology and social factors.
