State of Residence Correlated to State of Mind

A study to be published in the June issue of the American Journal of Preventive Medicineshows that geographic location influences one’s mental state. About 7% of Hawaiians experience mental distress, compared to 14% of Kentuckians. Researchers looked at data from 1993 to 2001 and 2003 to 2006. They believe that untreated medical conditions, high unemployment, high-risk behaviors, and lower incomes contribute to the demographic differences.
