New IBS Study: Mindfulness Meditation

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is currently recruiting women with IBS to participate in a study that focuses on the use of mindfulness meditation. Mindfulness meditation is an alternative medicine technique that teaches practitioners to focus on the present and eliminate negative thoughts, as well as thoughts about the past and future. Researchers plan to study this treatment method in 60 women, assigning 30 to a mindfulness meditation group and 30 to a support group. The participants will participate in follow-up discussions at 3, 6, and 12 months. ClinicalTrials.gov, May 2008
