Diet Is Key to a Long Life

A study by Professor Ashima Kant of Queens College of the City University of New York shows that people with the best diets reduce risk of death by 25% over a period of 10 years. The study chose data on 350,000 adults from an NIH/AARP database. Participants were grouped according to adherence to USDA Dietary Guidelines as a whole, and Kant’s team noted that people did not have to observe all the guidelines in order to see benefits. Penny Kris-Etherton, professor at Penn State points out that the finding are hopeful, but that it is up to individuals to make healthy food choices. HealthDay, June 23, 2009
