Help Yourself to Fiber and Help Yourself to Better Health
Dietary fiber has long been touted as a necessity; however only half of us get enough. This substance is important in our diet for several reasons. First, and most obvious, is fiber’s role in the digestive system. Insoluble fiber helps move waste material through the digestive tract. Soluble fiber helps lower cholesterol and is associated with reduced risk of heart disease and weight loss. Finally, getting more fiber also means eating healthier foods; most high-fiber foods are also healthy food choices. OrlandoSentinel.com, June 3, 2008
