Linoleic Acid Linked to Bowel Disease
According to a new European study in the journal Gut, people who eat large quantities of red meat and fried foods are at a higher risk of developing the type of inflammatory bowel disease called ulcerative colitis. These foods contain linoleic acid, and studies show that elevated levels increase the risk of ulcerative colitis by two and a half times. In this study the polyunsaturated fats and omega-3 fatty acids were healthier for the bowel. WebMD Health News, July 22, 2009
