New Med for Chronic Constipation Passes the Test
Linaclotide, a new drug for chronic constipation, has successfully moved into phrase 3 testing (large patient population studies), according to Forest Laboratories, the company developing the new medication. Linaclotide successfully increased the frequency of weekly spontaneous bowel movement (SBM) in four- and twelve-week studies. So far the drug has no serious adverse side effects and only some patients indicated it caused diarrhea. Reuters, March 4, 2008.
