iPill: Doc in a Capsule?

Philips, a Dutch hospital equipment maker, has designed a multifunction capsule that serves as camera, microprocessor, radio, pump, computer, and drug reservoir. The pill can take readings to determine acid level, and then dispense medications to affected areas. According to Philips, the new capsule can help treat diseases like Crohn’s. Direct delivery of medication to affected areas can minimize side effects. The prototype will be presented at the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists annual meeting. Technology, November 11, 2008
