A New Blood Test for IBS
Prometheus Diagnostics recently launched a new diagnostic blood test for IBS. This test consists of 10 biomarkers, chosen by Prometheus, that indicate various problems. The markers are based on the test results of 1,721 subjects. Based on the initial study, test sensitivity and specificity are 76% and 81%, respectively. In addition, when the test results are positive, the subject has IBS in 92% of cases (positive predictive value), and when the test is negative, the subject does not have IBS in 91% of cases (negative predictive value). This test is new to market, and it remains to be seen how it could be incorporated in general medicine or gastroenterology practices. Prometheus Labs, no date
